This course is a very comprehensive course outlining the many elements of pre-season conditioning training for field sports, court sports and athletics.
The course consists of 3 lectures and 6 workshops.
Lecture 1 – The Concept of Conditioning Training (54 minutes)
This lecture describes and illustrates the type of conditioning training that is needed in the four phases of the training year with a special emphasis on the Pre-season Phase.
Lecture 2 – Strength Development Training (54 minutes)
In this lecture we discuss the importance and benefits of strength training as well as describing the important objectives that can be achieved by adjusting the weightlifting programme from building muscles to developing strength, to developing power or strength endurance as required by the individual athlete or player throughout the training year.
Lecture 3 – Flexibility Development Training (30 minutes)
In this lecture we discuss the importance of flexibility training and its benefits. We describe the various types of flexibility exercises and how to plan an effective flexibility programme.
Workshop 1 – Endurance or Stamina Training (53 minutes)
This workshop describes the best approach to ensuring athletes and players have the necessary endurance or stamina to perform in their sports and we also demonstrate some good stamina training sessions for field sport teams.
Workshop 2 – Circuit Training (30 minutes)
In this workshop we discuss the importance and benefits of circuit training and provide demonstrating of a full circuit training programme.
Workshop 3 – Core Stability Training (57 minutes)
In this workshop we discuss the importance and benefits of core stability training. We demonstrate a full series of exercises in each of the following categories – Floor exercises, Animal walk exercises, Suspension exercises and Carrying exercises – all designed to develop both core stability and core strength.
Workshop 4 – Weight Training (70 minutes)
In this workshop we discuss the importance and benefits of weightlifting as a training tool. We illustrate and demonstrate 5 full different weight training sessions – each with a different objective for the various stages of the programme: 1) Beginners; 2) Hypertrophy (Muscle building); 3) Strength development; 4) Power development and 6) Strength or Muscular endurance development.
Workshop 5 – Kettlebell Training ( 57 minutes)
In this workshop we discuss the benefits and relevance of Kettlebell training especially for beginners and teenagers. We provide and illustrate a full series of great kettlebell exercises.
Workshop 6 – Flexibility Stretching Exercises (39 minutes)
In this workshop, we demonstrate a series of static flexibility exercises designed to assist coaches in developing the flexibility and mobility of their athletes or players. A full dynamic warm-up will be found in SAQ Course 1.
