The objective of this course is to ensure coaches working with juvenile athletes, players or teams understands and appreciates:
The course provides coaches with 240 different skill exercises each one is explained, illustrated with coaching notes and is aimed at taking the young athlete/player from 6 to 12 years of age.
Skill is the most important component of fitness in most sports. Functional skills are part of the skills that coaches need to train when working with juveniles. Function can be difficult to define but in the case of juveniles it includes teaching the children to use their bodies and limbs effectively and with greater coordination in movement and physical skill execution as well as adding to their adaptability to situations in life or in sport.
Learning new skills whether in movement or function is a skill itself. The more the coach teaches children the most effective ways of exercising and completing any type of skill the better that child becomes at skill development.
This course examines the 6 categories of functional skills – squatting, lunging, bending, rotating, pushing and pulling and demonstrates the importance of each category in the physical and overall development of the athlete/player. In the case of the young people there is a greater need for developing the general skills of movement and function rather than the specific skills of the sport. Coaches who undertake this course will be in a better position to let the athletes/players experience and develop the key skills that will make him or her more athletic first and then make them better sports players.
In this course we present over 175 functional skills for use by the expert juvenile strength and conditioning coach that will be of great assistance over the 6 years the child remains in the juvenile ranks.
